WALKING BRADGATE PARK
This Friday brought the delightful opportunity to join the Ratae Walkers on one of their monthly walks. The day was reasonable weather wise, with only a small threat of rain which did not materialise.
After meeting and greeting in the car park in Newtown Linford, we proceeded under Bob Perrett's lead, forward and uphill into the park proper. First obstacle was the 200 yard near vertical climb up to the monument, which took a brief toll on one or three members, including the author. But the arising views over a large part of Leicestershire, pointed out to us by the leader, made it worth it.
Then there was the walk through the astonishing and magical little wood of short, thick trees just before the monument. Then we continued the short walk to Old John for a break, and photos.
Downhill after the climb was a pleasure with increasing splendid views over the Park, then on to the coffee break at the Park's own facilities - For more photos . Then to the Grey Lady Kitchen restaurant in Newtown Linford where the rest of the Club awaited us, patiently. On the 22nd of February 2013, in place of the February Walk, three Club octogenarians, Paul Baulch, Bill Powell and Clive Cox celebrated their Birthdays together, with a lovely meal at the Taste Restaurant in Leicester.
The themed cake for the occasion was made by Sadie Garratt.
